Kings forward Keegan Murray sidelined with yet another injury

Just four games after returning from injury, Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray has suffered yet another injury.

With roughly three minutes remaining in Wednesday night’s loss to the Houston Rockets, Murray exited the game after rolling his left ankle. It’s the same ankle that sustained a moderate sprain in late February, which caused him to miss 20 games.

The Kings announced on Friday that Murray underwent an MRI, revealing a mild left ankle sprain. He will be reevaluated in two weeks.

The former fourth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft missed the first 15 games of the season after suffering a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his left thumb during a preseason game against Portland.

He returned for 19 of the next 21 games before suffering that previous ankle sprain, which Murray told reporters was the first injury of that type throughout his career, before 20 more games on the sideline.

Now, just three games and one quarter later, he’ll miss more of their action. In the 23 games he’s played this season, the 6’8 forward has averaged 14.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting career lows from the field (42 percent) and three (27.7 percent).

Missing at least two weeks from the date of this announcement means Kings head coach Doug Christie will be without his starting forward for at least another six games. With only 21 games left in their 2025-26 season, it should mean more opportunity for players such as Precious Achiuwa, Daeqwon Plowden, and new two-way forward Patrick Baldwin Jr.

It’s just another hiccup in what’s been an unideal season for Murray and Sacramento as a whole. Could they consider shutting him down for the remainder of the season, or is there still value in Murray attempting to close out the final 10-15 games of 2025-26.
