Kings get good news on Kevin Huerter’s hamstring injury

Exhale, Kings fans.

After leaving Thursday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets with what was believed to be a hamstring strain, Sacramento Kings guard Kevin Huerter’s MRI came back clean on Friday, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Huerter is considered day-to-day, but it appears that Sacramento dodged a bullet after its starting two-guard suffered a scary fall against the Nets.

The 24-year-old exited Thursday’s game midway through the first quarter after falling awkwardly on his right leg as the Kings training staff attempted to work on Huerter before eventually taking him back to the locker room.

Shortly after Huerter was ruled out for the remainder of the game, FOX 40’s Sean Cunningham shared that the belief around the organization was that the guard suffered a mild hamstring strain, adding that Sacramento was “optimistic” and “relieved that the injury wasn’t worse.”

Those feelings of optimism were warranted, as Huerter will be sidelined for what is expected to be a short amount of time.

If Huerter is unable to play in Sacramento’s upcoming games against Washington and Utah, players like Terence Davis, Malik Monk, and Kessler Edwards will likely see expanded roles as the Kings close in on locking up a postseason berth.

Huerter had been on an absolute heater before exiting Thursday’s game, as ‘Red Velvet’ entered play averaging 19.9 points per game on 56 percent shooting from three-point range (7.1 attempts per game) over his last eight appearances.

Thankfully, the Kings won’t be without Huerter for long as they inch closer to the postseason.
