Chris Biderman questions Sacramento’s direction post-deadline

The Sacramento Bee’s Chris Biderman joined The Allen Stiles Show on Thursday to discuss where the Sacramento Kings stand, specifically their future outlook, after their busy trade deadline.

Trading away De’Aaron Fox, Kevin Huerter, Alex Len, and Jordan McLaughlin in exchange for Zach LaVine, Jonas Valanciunas, Jake LaRavia, and (essentially) two first-round picks was a questionable decision in Biderman’s eyes.

“I would’ve rather taken the draft picks to try and draft the next De’Aaron Fox than race to the middle to potentially get a handful of playoff games,” Chris Biderman said.

Many teams avoid the middle range that Sacramento seems to be striving for, peaking around the play-in tournament that includes teams seeded sixth to tenth in each conference.

To Biderman’s point, the Kings chose not to bottom out in a situation where most organizations would’ve. Now, it’s about proving that this was the correct process by winning some games this season and continuing to find ways to trend upward.

As plenty of interviews take place during NBA All-Star weekend, Klutch Sports agent Rich Paul joined Gil’s Arena last weekend in San Francisco to discuss the recent trade deadline, which included two of his clients, Anthony Davis and De’Aaron Fox, finding new homes.

The Drive Guys broke down Paul’s comments about the De’Aaron Fox situation, including his liking of pairing the guard with Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio.

“In De’Aaron’s case, he had spent eight years in (Sacramento),” Rich Paul said. “It was pretty good, but it was time for a change, and I personally wanted to place him next to Wemby to grow, and he thought that that made a lot of sense, too.”

When is the next Kings game?

The playoff push will begin on Friday night at Golden 1 Center when the Sacramento Kings face a familiar foe–the Golden State Warriors as both teams hope to climb the Western Conference standings.

Sacramento is 2-0 against the Golden State this season, winning the most recent matchup at Golden 1 Center by a final of 123-117 on January 22nd behind 32 points from DeMar DeRozan.
