The Sacramento Kings have been dealing with an injury bug to begin the regular season, but help is on the way.
After both players missed multiple games due to lower back tightness, Kings forward DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis returned to practice this week as they look to return to the floor for Sacramento’s matchup with the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night in Southern California.
Kings head coach Mike Brown told the media that both players were full participants in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, adding that “it’s looking good” for both players to return to the lineup on Friday.
DeRozan has enjoyed a strong start to his Kings career, posting averages of 22.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per game on 52/40/86 shooting splits.
Sabonis, an All-NBA Third Team center last year, has been his usual dominant self to begin the regular season. The three-time All-Star holds averages of 20.2 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game on 64 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from three-point range over 13 games.
Sixth Man of the Year runner-up Malik Monk (right ankle sprain) has missed the past five games, but the guard was also seen on the floor in a practice jersey during Thursday’s session.
While Brown was noncommittal to Monk’s status for Friday in Los Angeles, it’s clear that the Kentucky product is nearing a return to game action.
When is the next game for the Sacramento Kings game?
Sacramento will enjoy a much-needed three-day break before facing the Los Angeles Clippers at the Intuit Dome on Friday night.
The Kings and Clippers will cross paths in another NBA Cup group play game, with Sacramento (0-1) and Los Angeles (0-1) each seeking their first win in the Western Conference Group A standings.
