Former Sacramento Kings guard Kyle Guy announces retirement

Former Sacramento Kings guard Kyle Guy announced his retirement from basketball this week, but the 2019 NCAA champion will not be completely leaving the game behind.

Guy, who spent two seasons with the Kings from 2019-21, has accepted a position with the University of Virginia coaching staff–his alma mater–where he will act as the athlete development mentor and special assistant for head coach Tony Bennett.

After playing three seasons in the NBA, Guy spent the past two seasons overseas playing for clubs in Spain and Greece, where he averaged a combined 11.2 points and 2.0 assists on 42/35/78 shooting splits.

Over two seasons with Sacramento, Guy averaged 2.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 33 percent from the field over 34 combined appearances.

Guy logged 19 games with the Miami Heat during the 2022-23 season and averaged a career-best 3.9 points per contest before finishing his career overseas.

The 26-year-old was a force for the Cavaliers during his college days, averaging 15.4 points per game and earning NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors during Virginia’s National Championship season in 2019.
