Former Sacramento Kings head coach and general manager Jerry Reynolds joined The Drive Guys on Friday afternoon to discuss the night prior’s 117-115 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He discussed being encouraged by their offensive performance, considering the Timberwolves were the best defense in the NBA last season.

One thing the Kings’ legend did call for was for Malik Monk to get more minutes. The back-to-back Sixth Man of the Year played 26 minutes Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Keegan Murray (43), DeMar DeRozan (43), Domantas Sabonis (38), and De’Aaron Fox (37) played significant minutes in game one.

Jerry Reynolds thinks Monk should be playing close to that 30-minute mark. Overall, there was an optimistic tone about the potential of the 2024-25 Kings featuring new addition DeMar DeRozan.

Some growing pains are to be expected as head coach Mike Brown gets a better feel for his ideal rotation, but it’s a long, 82-game season.

When is the next Sacramento Kings game?

Sacramento will hit the road for a brief one-game trip to Los Angeles, where they will face LeBron James and a Lakers team playing on the second night of a back-to-back.

Last season, the Kings swept the four-game regular season series against the Lakers (4-0)–their first season sweep of their Pacific Division rival since the 2015-16 season.
