As is the nature of preseason, teams are still making moves to shape their rosters. According to ESPN‘s Shams Charania, the Sacramento Kings are trading forward Jalen McDaniels and a second-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs.

After acquiring Jalen McDaniels from the Toronto Raptors in a financially motivated deal that sent out Davion Mitchell and Sasha Vezenkov, the Kings have already elected to move on from the San Diego State alum.

Charania also reported that the Spurs “plan to waive McDaniels” when the deal is completed.

The Kings didn’t receive any noteworthy assets in return, but opening up a roster spot could prove helpful shortly.

One day after their third preseason game, a 105-85 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, McDaniels participated in the team’s practice the following Monday, less than an hour before the deal was announced.

As they say, the NBA is a business.

Sacramento now has two open roster spots, with current training camp players Boogie Ellis, Terry Taylor, Skal Labissiere, and Brodric Thomas fighting to secure an opening.

But, the Kings could easily elect to go beyond that group if someone of their liking were still available and/or cut from another team’s camp roster.

When is the next Sacramento Kings game?

Sacramento will head into its final week of preseason with two games—both on the road—remaining on its exhibition schedule.

The Kings will head to Salt Lake City for a matchup against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night.
