Just over 12 hours removed from parting ways with former NBA Executive of the Year winner Monte McNair, the Sacramento Kings have found their new general manager.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Kings have reached an agreement with seasoned executive and former New York Knicks general manager Scott Perry to take over the franchise’s basketball operations.

The Athletic‘s Sam Amick first mentioned the increasing likelihood of Perry being a front-runner for the role, and Sacramento has hit the offseason running by hiring the 61-year-old to shape the Kings’ roster going forward.

Perry was the Knicks’ general manager from 2017-2023 after spending three months under former Sacramento GM Vlade Divac during the 2017 offseason.

During his time in New York, Perry was not in charge of basketball operations, a role handled by team president Steve Mills.

What’s next for the Sacramento Kings?

The Sacramento Kings will head into an uncertain offseason that could once again bring widespread change in the coming weeks and months.

Once the Sacramento Kings lock in their head coach and front office leader, they will need to improve a roster that is unlikely to hold a first-round draft pick in June (owed to Atlanta as part of the 2023 Kevin Huerter trade).

Several members of the current roster, including All-NBA center Domantas Sabonis and future Hall of Fame forward DeMar DeRozan, are expected to meet with the organization to gauge their future.

Can this current core be salvaged? Is it time to rebuild? What’s the best path forward for the Beam Team?

Buckle up for a busy offseason in Sacramento.
