Sacramento Kings to sign veteran PG Dennis Schröder
The Sacramento Kings have reached an agreement with free agent point guard Dennis Schröder, who is set to fill the team's vacant starting PG role.

The Sacramento Kings have found a new starting point guard.
According to multiple reports, the Kings have reached an agreement with free agent point guard Dennis Schröder, who had been heavily linked to Sacramento in the days leading into free agency.
Schröder, who is coming off his 12th NBA season, spent the 2024-25 season with Brooklyn, Golden State, and Detroit, where he finished with averages of 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 0.9 steals per game on 40/34/83 shooting splits (75 games).
The Athletic‘s Fred Katz was the first to report Schröder reaching an agreement with Sacramento.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Tuesday morning that the terms are $45 million over three years, with the final year being partially guaranteed.

Many eyes have been on the Kings in the days and weeks leading up to free agency, as new general manager Scott Perry and his front office evaluate the state of the Sacramento roster that fell short of expectations in the 2024-25 season.
After trading star guard De’Aaron Fox to San Antonio in February, the Kings have been without a clear replacement at the starting point guard spot.
Malik Monk, who is naturally a two-guard, experienced a lengthy run at the position before being moved back into a reserve role under then-interim head coach Doug Christie. Sacramento ended the season with DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine initiating the offense, with Domantas Sabonis bringing the ball up the floor in some sets.
Now, the Kings will have a veteran guard in Schröder, who has experienced starting and sixth-man opportunities with several playoff teams.
The 32-year-old has played in 74 playoff games, most recently with Detroit in April and May, where he averaged 12.5 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 49 percent from the field and 47 percent from long distance.
Adding Schröder fills a void–a massive one, at that–to begin the offseason for Sacramento.
The Kings picked up their 2025-26 team option on guard Keon Ellis on Sunday, who spent the end of 2024-25 as one of Sacramento’s starting guards.
It remains to be seen what Perry and his front office have in store, but bringing Schröder in addresses a clear need for a Kings roster that could look much different come training camp.
Was this the right move for this group? The jury will be out on that question in the months and years to come, but Perry has officially fired the starting gun on this offseason of change for the Beam Team.

With the NBA’s free agency period set to begin on Monday, the Sacramento Kings have made one of their most pressing offseason decisions: Choosing a lane on a contract for Keon Ellis.
Sacramento had two options entering the offseason: picking up Ellis’ $2.3 million team option for the 2025-26 season, which would allow the guard to enter unrestricted free agency next summer, or declining the option and attempting to re-sign Ellis for a longer contract during this free agency period.
New Kings general manager Scott Perry made his choice on Sunday as Sacramento picked up the 2025-26 team option on Ellis, meaning the two-way guard will be entering a contract year this fall.
If the Kings and Ellis were to figure out a contract extension, Sacramento would have to wait until February 9, 2026, when he becomes extension-eligible.
Over his first year-plus with the Kings, Ellis impressed on a two-way contract, proving to be the team’s best on-ball defender and an impressive three-point marksmen.
Sacramento inked Ellis to a standard NBA deal during the 2023-24 season and went on to start in 28 of 80 appearances during the 2024-25 campaign.

What’s next for the Sacramento Kings offseason?
Following the 2025 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings will prepare for the start of NBA Free Agency.
The NBA free agency negotiation period begins on Monday, June 30th, at 3 pm PT, meaning Sacramento will be able to negotiate with players — but agreements cannot be officially completed until Sunday, July 6th.
