Stockton Kings score 144 points in G-League Finals game two victory

The Stockton Kings kept their NBA G-Legaue Finals hopes alive after scoring 144 points on 24/41 3P in game two. The winner takes all game will be on Monday in Osceola.

The Stockton Kings evened the G-League Finals at 1-1 after defeating the Osceola Magic Friday night in Stockton Arena.

Scoring 144 points compared to their opponents’ 126 was fueled by their 58.5 percent (24/41) three-point shooting. Mason Jones, who was getting double-teamed from the jump, recorded 27 points and 12 assists.

Skal Labissiere (26) and Dexter Dennis (24) each surpassed the 20-point mark while seven total Stockton players recorded double-digit scoring efforts.

With the G-League Finals only being a three-game series, they’ll travel back to Osceola for a winner-takes-all game three on Monday night at 7 P.M. PST.

Stockton Arena hosted their final game of the 2024-25 season, win or loss, considering that the G-League Finals is a three-game series. Osceola finished with the best regular season record in the league, earning the right to host games one and three.

Head coach Quinton Crawford runs the squad’s offense through two-way player M. Jones, who continues to grow as a creator for himself and others. His abilities were showcased early as he recorded nine of Stockton’s first 18 points.

M. Jones had 14 points and four assists at the end of the first, but it was a group effort from beyond the perimeter. The Kings went 7/10 from beyond the arc, a vital component to their 41-point opening frame, while the Magic sat at 32.

But, they weren’t going to roll over. Osceola responded with a 21-9 run to start the second, reclaiming a 53-50 lead. Former Kings draft pick Jalen Slawson provided energy while Mac McClung and Alex Morales filled the stat sheet.

Meanwhile, Labissiere and Terry Taylor backed up M. Jones’s stellar efforts. Offensive rebounding was a key to Osceola’s game one win, pulling down 18 offensive rebounds, and that continued in the first half, allowing them to take a 77-68 lead over the Kings headed into halftime.

“They’re going to go on runs, we’re going to go on runs,” coach Crawford said after the game. “I thought, [in] the third quarter, our intensity to box out was the turning point.”

Executing on the glass, while playing with pace and remaining hot from beyond the arc, helped them regain the advantage in the frame. Dennis hit two triples as the third was winding down, as Stockton built a 110-104 advantage.

Putting together a 7-0 run to start the final frame was a sign of things to come. It was an offensive showcase for both teams up until that point, but the Magic had their lowest scoring quarter, tallying 22 compared to Stockton’s 34.

A sold-out Stockton Arena added to the night, providing great energy in the home team’s 144-126 game two victory.

“Man, it was tremendous,” M. Jones said about the environment after the win. “Last year, it was a lot of fans, but this year it was doubled. And just to see the impact that it had on us and the run that we were able to make in the third quarter, it was because of the fans.”

Jones recorded a team-high 27 points and 12 assists along with six rebounds on 7/16 from the field and 5/8 from three. Labissiere added 26 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks while Dennis recorded 24 points and eight rebounds on 5/8 from three.

Stockton shot 58.5 percent (24/41) from three in their victory, with seven players reaching double-digit scoring. McClung led Orlando with a game-high 34 points and eight assist on 12/25 shooting, including 3/10 from deep.

Now, it’s onto game three of the G-League Finals Monday night in Osceola (7 P.M. PST on ESPN2) in a winner-takes-all matchup.

Kings’ forward Taylor thinks their final game will come down to “whoever wants in more.”

The entire Stockton roster is clearly locked into getting that final win with the goal of hanging a G-League Championship banner in game one of next season.
