The SAC-12’s efforts to lift Sacramento State athletics into the FBS continue to pick up steam.
According to State Hornet Sports and Front Office Sports, the SAC-12 announced on Monday that it has reached its initial goal of raising $50 million in NIL funds to strengthen the school’s case for an invitation to the PAC-12 or Mountain West conference.
Now, the group has a new goal: $75 million.
NIL deals (name, image, and likeness) allow college athletes to monetize their personal brand and endorsements through a variety of activities, including autograph signings, product endorsements, social media posts, and much more.
With nearly $60 million in NIL funds secured, we’ll see how far the SAC-12 can go in aiding an already-announced new Sacramento State football stadium with the financial elements that could entice FBS-level talent.
The @SAC12PAC12 announced they have raised over $57 million in NIL funds for @hornetsports, according to a press release. They are targeting a goal of $75M now.

Announcement from Sacramento State on their planned new football stadium
Sacramento State has announced plans to construct a new state-of-the-art football and multi-use stadium that will replace the current temporary stands at Hornet Stadium, providing the University with a venue to leverage its location in one of the top 20 media markets in the nation.
The multi-sport facility will be designed to host football, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s rugby. The stadium will also host collegiate, professional and international competitions, NCAA championships, concerts, club sports and other events including Commencement and Convocation.
“Today marks a significant milestone for Sacramento State,” said Sac State President Luke Wood. “The construction of this new, multi-use stadium will take our athletic game experiences to a new level. The stadium will benefit multiple sports teams including football, soccer and rugby. The feasibility study completed in 2023 shows we not only need the improvements, but we have so much more we can offer our campus and community with a new stadium.”
The campus has secured architecture firm Populous to design the stadium, which will be constructed at the site of the current Hornet Stadium. The stadium will accommodate a minimum of 25,000 attendees and feature a horseshoe design including student sections, premium seating and boxes. Renderings will be released in the coming weeks.
“This new, state-of-the-art multi-purpose stadium will be more than just an amazing home to our Hornet athletic teams. It will serve as an entertainment hub for many types of events for all Sacramento State students, alumni, fans and community members to enjoy,” said Mark Orr, Sac State director of Athletics. “It will also have a significant positive impact on our ability to attract and retain student-athletes to compete for championship success at a national level.”
