No. 18 UC Davis football sits just two weeks away from the start of the 2024 season and as the Aggies pass the halfway point of fall camp they have begun to lock in for Aug. 31 and a trip to Cal.

“We’ve continued to grow as a team and we are getting closer each day to finding out they type of team we are entering the season,” said head coach Tim Plough. “We’ve basically installed everything offensively and defensively at this point, so over this next week I’d like us to hone in on we’re going to be for those first few games.”

UC Davis has now held a pair of scrimmages and completed 15 practices since getting started on July 31, improving each day as the rosters settle themselves across all three units. During those scrimmages, both sides of the ball shined, as the competitive nature of camp was showcased in a controlled matter under the watchful eye of a group of officials.

The coaching staff has also been able to piece together the units that will start things when the Aggies head to Cal, with the offensive and defensive units growing in comfort with each practice. The time spent over the past two weeks has also meant that the special team units have begun to come together, key units that can make or break games and provide opportunities for non-starters to get on the field and make an impact.

“Your special teams unit reflects the type of team you’re going to have, and I know that coach Jackson [Isaiah] has done a great job organizing those units,” said Plough. “Hopefully you can find a dozen guys on your roster that for whatever reason might not be starting on offense or defense, but on special teams they can make a name for themselves. And I think we’ve done a good job building depth there.”

With one more week of camp, before the first game week gets started UC Davis will look to evaluate the remainder of the roster as the Aggies build out depth for their 12-game schedule.

It’s been a competitive camp on both Bob Biggs Practice Field and the turf at UC Davis Health Stadium, but as the rosters shake out the Aggies look poised to shred the 2024 season together with a shared confidence gained over the month of August.
