UC Davis football junior kicker Hunter Ridley has been named a Fred Mitchell Award finalist acknowledging a season where Ridley tied a school record and at one point hit 12-straight field goals across seven games.
The award recognizes exceptional placekicking and community service. The selection committee is comprised of former NFL and college kickers, previous award winners, as well as prominent businessmen and community-minded individuals.
Ridley, who was named second-team Big Sky All-Conference, finished the season as one of the most accurate kickers in the nation and the conference. He finished third in the conference in field goal percentage (88.9) and field goals per game (1.3) and those numbers translated to sixth in the nation in field goal percentage.
He went 16-for-18 on the season, including hitting three big field goals at Eastern Washington in the Aggies historic victory on the red turf of Roos Field. Ridley also tied a program record with four kicks made in a single game, going 4-for-4 against Utah Tech.
The winner of the Fred Mitchell Award will be announced by Fred Mitchell next week during Mitchell’s radio appearance in Chicago.
