Luke Getsy, the new Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator, will know how to use Davante Adams.
Earlier on in the 2023 season, the Raiders star receiver was visibly frustrated over his usage under former coach Josh McDaniels. When Antonio Pierce took over, things improved. Now there is optimism for the future.
When the Raiders hired Getsy, they added someone who’s very familiar with how to use Adams. The 39-year-old coordinator entered the league in 2014 as an offensive quality control coach in Green Bay. He was then promoted to the receivers coach for the 2016-17 season.
Getsy left the Packers for a year, returning in 2019, where he was the quarterbacks coach until he became the offensive coordinator in Chicago in 2022. For all seven years he was in Green Bay, Adams was there too.
“I walked into a room as a young receivers coach and was really able to connect to him quickly. So, he was in the middle of a room with Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson, who were at the peaks of their career and accomplishing all these things and had been to Pro Bowls, and Davante, he aspired to do that and more,” Getsy said. “And we were able to connect really well, and our relationship was such that I walked in as a quarterback guy walking into the receiver room, and hopefully, those guys felt that I kind of brought that element to that room… And I think that you’re talking about one of the most spatial aware people I’ve ever been around, and someone who’s able to take information and make the most of it and that’s Tae. So, that ’16 season was really kind of the beginning of when he was ready to take off as a pro.”
