Charlie Ebersol Launching The Alliance of American Football In 2019

Charlie Ebersol is launching a new football league called the Alliance of American Football.

According to CBS Sports, the league will debut on CBS in 2019, premiering before Vince McMahon’s XFL in 2020.

The league will have eight teams with 50 players each, competing in cities to be announced in the next three months.

Among other differences, the Alliance will reportedly have no kickoffs, no TV timeouts and 60 percent fewer commercials than other leagues.

Charlie Ebersol, son of TV executive Dick Ebersol, will launch a new pro football league, "Alliance of American Football."

Bill Polian, Troy Polamalu, Hines Ward and Justin Tuck will all be involved as executives in the league.

Charlie Ebersol is NBC executive Dick Ebersol’s son, who was partnered with McMahon during the XFL’s initial run, and only season, in 1999.

The younger Ebersol says

“The Alliance of American Football represents a fundamental shift in the way we approach professional sports. We believe fans and players are what’s most important, so our approach is simple — we’ve created an Alliance where fans and players share in the success of their teams.”

The official release date for the Alliance of American Football is Feb. 9, 2019,  one week after Super Bowl LIII.
