Local 2018 Winter Games Competitors

With the 2018 Winter Games only 35 days away in PyeongChang, South Korea, we decided to compile a list of the California-born athletes set to compete.

With the 2018 Winter Games only 35 days away in PyeongChang, South Korea, we decided to compile a list of the California-born athletes set to compete.

Jamie Anderson – Snowboarding 

South Lake Tahoe, California

After becoming the youngest Winter X-Games medalist when she won bronze in 2006 at age 15, the South Lake Tahoe native won the gold medal in slopestyle at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.  Jamie is the only Northern-California athlete in this years games.

Jonathon Blum – Ice Hockey

Ladera Ranch, California

Became the first Californian-born man to be drafted in the first round of the NHL draft when he was selected 23rd overall by the Nashville Predators in 2007. Named CHL Defenseman of the Year and earned the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy as the WHL’s top defenseman that same season. Owns the franchise record with 155 all-time assists for the Vancouver Giants.

Chloe Kim – Snowboarding

Torrance, California

At age 14,  earned medals at the Dew Tour, X Games and U.S. Open. Kim was nominated for the 2016 ESPYS award for Best Breakthrough Athlete.

Cayla Barnes – Ice Hockey

Eastvale, California

Cayla became the only player to win three consecutive gold medals at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship after taking the crown in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Finished her high school career with 155 career points in 112 games from 42 goals and 103 assists.
