The NFL Quarterback Shuffle

If you like rumors and chaos, then this NFL offseason if for you.
Never can I remember an offseason in the National Football League that has so much speculation on the most important position in the game. It has been said that teams either have a franchise quarterback or they are doing everything in their power to find one.
Take a look at any current NFL mock draft and you will likely see five quarterbacks placed in the first round:
Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones.
Every year the first round is filled with teams thinking they found their next generational quarterback. 4 first round QB’s were selected last year, 3 in 2019, 5 in 2018, 3 in 2017 and so on.
The troubling part of these stats is that the first round quarterbacks taken between 2009 and 2016, NONE of them are on the original team that drafted them. Those teams moved on. This is also happened since 2016 when the Cardinals moved on from Josh Rosen, and Washington said goodbye to Dwayne Haskins.
Teams do move on.
That very thought is happening right in front of our eyes. We have already seen Matthew Stafford move on from Detroit to Los Angeles. In that same deal the Rams moved on from their former number one pick in Jared Goff. This week the Philadelphia Eagles traded what they thought was their franchise quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts.
This will likely not end with these moves.
Where will Mitch Trubisky end up? Will Sam Darnold get a second team? Are the Texans going to actually move DeShaun Watson? Is Pittsburgh done with Big Ben? Are the 49ers going to try and upgrade from Jimmy G?
All of these things are legitimately being talked about with GM’s across the league.
When this past season just ended with Tom Brady holding the trophy that was another reminder of how important the position is and now teams think if we can just add “that type of QB” maybe we can win ourselves a championship.
I am here for all the rumors and the chaos, but all these teams are trying to get it right.
You know what will happen if they don’t get it right?
They will just try again and find the next quarterback that they think will be the one.
