It’s been an eventful couple of days for the San Francisco 49ers, as wide receiver Ricky Pearsall recovers from a gunshot wound, running back Christian McCaffrey nears his return to the gridiron, and left tackle Trent Williams ends his contract dispute with the organization.
The Athletic’s Matt Barrows joined The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross on Tuesday morning to dive into all of the massive storylines that are currently surrounding the 49ers, look ahead to this week’s slate of practices, and much more.
Plus, Barrows and the guys look forward to Monday’s season-opener against Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets.
Topics Discussed: 49ers, Christian McCaffrey & more
- 49ers rookie WR Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest over the weekend but was released from the hospital on Sunday.
- “The fact that he walked away from it and is going to be fine adds to the positive vibe that [the 49ers] are feeling this week.”
- How did the Pearsall situation unfold? Matt lays out the timeline.
- Star RB Christian McCaffrey will return to 49ers practice today after nursing a calf injury during training camp and preseason
- “Calf injuries are tricky… The 49ers saw this happening in early August and didn’t want it to turn into something that is prolonged.”
- Will CMC be limited during Monday’s season opener against the New York Jets?
- What was the difference between this year’s holdouts–Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams–and previous holdouts (Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel)?
- Left tackle Trent Williams has ended his holdout and intends to sign a new deal
- Barrows expects Williams to play in Monday’s season-opener against New York
- “My guess is that he plays his normal allotment.”
- Are the 49ers championship or bust in 2024?
- What should fans expect from Brock Purdy this season?
