Although the San Francisco 49ers have set its 53-man roster for the 2024 season, there are still several questions surrounding this group before action kicks off on Monday, September 9th.
Grant Cohn, 49ers writer for Sports Illustrated, joined Stiles & Watkins this week to dissect the latest report that disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will participate in practices this week, contemplate if Trent Williams will suit up for the Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets, and much more.
Plus, Grant explains why he feels the 2024 49ers are currently not lined up to be as successful as the 2023 squad.
Topics Discussed: Trent Williams, Brandon Aiyuk & the 49ers
- Why are the 49ers only carrying two tight ends on the 53-man roster for 2024?
- Grant says that San Francisco will eventually roster three tight ends on the final roster.
- What else does Brock Purdy have to prove this season in order to silence the naysayers?
- “If he stays doing what he’s been doing, he has an argument for being the highest-paid player in the league next season.”
- Did Trent Williams throw a wrench into the 49ers’ training camp plans?
- “It seemed like the team made some assumptions… He wants to be the highest-paid left tackle in football… That’s not something you can necessarily plan for.”
- Is San Francisco a better team than they were last season?
- Who will return first: Brandon Aiyuk or Trent Williams?
- “I don’t see how [the 49ers] play a game without Trent Williams.”
