49ers to activate rookie WR Ricky Pearsall, set to make NFL debut Week 7

Only 50 days removed from being shot in the chest, Ricky Pearsall will make his NFL debut at long last.

San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan announced Friday that the rookie wide receiver will be activated Saturday ahead of Week 7. After his practice window was opened this week, Pearsall delivered three strong practices to get the nod from the coaching staff. The first-round pick will be full-go against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“The guys are pumped,” Shanahan said about Ricky Pearsall Friday. “He’s had a hell of a week and we’re just pumped to get him out there with us.”

Ricky Pearsall, 24, has been sidelined since August 31st. The 49ers’ 2024 first-round pick was a victim of an attempted robbery outside Union Square, suffering a gunshot wound to the chest from the incident. While the situation was serious, Pearsall escaped with no vital organs or bones struck, able to be discharged from San Francisco General Hospital 24 hours later.

Six weeks removed, Ricky Pearsall returned to the practice field, and is now making his NFL debut the same week against the Kansas Chiefs.

It appears the 49ers will be down one of their Super Bowl LVIII standouts however, as Jauan Jennings has been ruled out for Week 7.

Jennings has been dealing with a hip injury stemming from Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks. He missed the two practices prior to Friday, and then followed that with a no-show to close out the week.

Jauan Jennings, 27, signed a two-year, $15.7 million extension with the 49ers over the offseason. The former seventh-round pick has exceeded expectations, becoming a focal member of coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense. 2024 has been a breakout in some respects, only 13 receiving yards away from breaking his career high for a season (404). The Tennessee alum has done so through only six games.

Joining Jennings on the sidelines will be both kickers Jake Moody and Matthew Wright.

The place-kicking duo have nagging injuries from the past two weeks. The former suffered a high-grade ankle sprain in Week 5, while the latter suffered a dislocated shoulder in Week 6. San Francisco added their third kicker in anticipation, signing Anders Carlson to the practice squad Tuesday.

Additionally, defensive tackle Kevin Givens is questionable ahead of Week 7, due to a groin issue. Givens picked up the injury during Wednesday’s practice, but did return to practice Friday in a limited capacity.

In better injury news, both running back Jordan Mason and wide receiver Deebo Samuel have been cleared to play Sunday. Mason suffered an AC joint sprain the week prior, sporting a non-contact jersey in practice. Meanwhile, Samuel had a wrist injury from last Thursday in Seattle.
