San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided several injury updates Monday following the team’s hard-fought 24-14 victory over the Denver Broncos, while also looking ahead to a difficult NFC West matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

The biggest injury news involved fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who will miss several weeks after suffering a knee hyperextension with a bone bruise.

Safety Marques Sigle will also miss time with a high ankle sprain, while defensive back Upton Stout is considered day-to-day with an AC sprain in his shoulder.

With Juszczyk sidelined, Shanahan expects tight ends Luke Farrell, Brayden Willis and George Kittle to take on more responsibility.

“They’re all pretty interchangeable, but it’ll definitely get Brayden some more ops,” Shanahan said. “Brayden’s been ready for this role.”

Shanahan was encouraged by what he saw from his team against Denver, particularly its willingness to stick with the game plan despite struggling to convert short-yardage situations early.

“I think the whole team just bought into the type of game that we thought it was going to be,” Shanahan said. “We thought it was going to be a real physical game that we really wanted to control the ball and run the ball well on offense.”

The 49ers eventually broke through in the fourth quarter, scoring three consecutive times to turn a defensive battle into a 24-14 victory.

George Kittle provided the biggest offensive play, catching a pass and racing 56 yards for a touchdown. Kittle finished with four receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown, continuing an impressive return from last season’s Achilles injury.

Shanahan also praised the defensive line for holding up despite an extraordinary number of injuries. San Francisco entered the game with just four healthy defensive linemen remaining from the original group of 10 available two weeks earlier.

“I’ve been real proud of how they’ve played these last two weeks,” Shanahan said.

One player who could see an expanded role is Malik Mustapha. With Sigle sidelined, Mustapha could receive more defensive snaps after making a major play against Denver by breaking up a third-down pass.

“I’m real excited with Malik and how he’s looked,” Shanahan said.

As for Seattle, Shanahan isn’t interested in dwelling on last season’s difficult games against the Seahawks.

“I think it’s more of a fresh page,” Shanahan said. “I see two totally different teams.”

The 49ers enter Seattle at 4-0, but Shanahan knows the undefeated start will be put to another serious test Sunday.
