Davante Adams says Raiders needs Josh Jacobs if they want to win Super Bowl

Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams said the team needs running back Josh Jacobs if they want to win the Super Bowl.

On Monday, reports surfaced that Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs won’t report for the team’s training camp.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the running back, “told people close to him that he doesn’t plan to return anytime soon.” Jacobs and the Raiders could not agree to a new long-term deal ahead of last Monday’s contract extension deadline.

Earlier in the offseason, the Raiders extended Jacobs the franchise tag, which he has not yet signed. Since he hasn’t signed his tag, he can’t be fined for not showing up to camp since he’s not technically under contract.

On a recent episode of NFL Total Access, Jacobs’ teammate Davante Adams spoke about the situation. Having gone through a similar situation, Adams said he’s offering his help to Jacobs.

“I’ve been talking to him, we’ve been in his ear a little bit just trying to coach him through this process,” Adams said. “I’ve been through it a couple of times myself and I know what it’s like to go back and forth about whether or not you feel appreciated. And obviously that’s a big part of that position. And it’s been that way for a while.”

Davante Adams went on to say that if the team is serious about their Super Bowl aspirations, then Jacobs needs to be on the roster.

“If we really want to have a shot at winning the Super Bowl and having all the elite aspirations that we do, we’re gonna need that guy. So I’m praying that we can still figure something out, but also understanding where Josh is coming from and trying to coach him through it at the same time,” Adams said.

Josh Jacobs in 2022

Prior to the 2022 season, the Raiders declined to pick up the fifth-year option for the 24th pick in the 2019 draft.

Then he went off. Josh Jacobs rushed for 1,653 total yards, securing the NFL’s rushing title and becoming only the second Raider to win the NFL’s rushing title. Raider legend and Hall of Fame running back Marcus Allen led the league in rushing in 1985, his MVP season, with 1,759 yards.
