49ers star DE Nick Bosa Expected To Miss Multiple Weeks

49ers star Nick Bosa is expected to miss multiple weeks with a calf injury, adding to an already lengthy list of injuries on San Francisco’s defensive line.

Injuries continue to haunt the San Francisco 49ers, as star defensive end Nick Bosa will reportedly be sidelined for a few weeks.

Bosa pulled his calf during Thursday’s practice and is now expected to miss “a few weeks,” according to multiple reports.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first with the news. He also added that San Francisco “is figuring out whether or not Bosa needs to be placed on injured reserve.”

Bosa has struggled with injuries recently, playing just three games in 2025 before tearing his right ACL. He played in both of the 49ers’ first two games this year, recording two tackles for loss before suffering the calf injury in practice.

Those numbers don’t tell the whole story, as the former Defensive Player of the Year is easily San Francisco’s biggest threat on the defensive line and has earned that kind of respect from opposing offenses.

Defensive coordinator Raheem Morris will have a tough task ahead of him, as Bosa is far from the only unavailable player on the defensive line.

Sam Okuayinonu is on injured reserve with a broken foot, while Alfred Collins suffered a season-ending torn patellar tendon before Week 1. C.J. West was placed on IR this week with a bone chip in his knee, James Thompson Jr. suffered a high ankle sprain in the Week 2 win over Miami, and rookie Romello Height had surgery Tuesday for a broken hand.

The offense also has notable injuries, with Ricky Pearsall (PCL), De’Zhaun Stribling (ankle), Demarcus Robinson (high ankle sprain) and Christian Kirk (calf) all limited or unavailable in the wide receiver room.

Offensively, San Francisco has enough talent to stay afloat, but losing Bosa will be much tougher to replace. No one player can replicate what he brings, but it’s unfortunately a familiar spot for the 49ers, who have had to embrace a “next man up” mentality far too often in recent years.

Keion White will likely be asked to take on an even larger role on the edge, while Ogbo Okoronkwo and Khalid Kareem are among the other options San Francisco can rotate in. Height could also help once he’s able to play through the hand injury, while Mykel Williams remains on the PUP list as he works his way back from last season’s ACL tear.

There isn’t a realistic way to replace Bosa with one player, making the health and production of the remaining defensive line even more important over the next few weeks.

For now, San Francisco will have to generate pressure without its best pass rusher, starting this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
