Reports: Derek Carr given permission to talk to other NFL teams

Following the results of Championship Sunday, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was named to the NFL’s Pro Bowl.

Carr was named to the Pro Bowl roster Tuesday, Jan. 31, rounding out the list for AFC quarterbacks this year. The initial list of Pro Bowlers for the AFC was Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen. Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will be in the Super Bowl in less than two weeks, Allen has been dealing with injuries all season, and Burrow simply declined to attend the event.

It was during the Pro Bowl that several updates either from the quarterback himself or from NFL insiders came out about his situation with the Las Vegas Raiders

The 31-year-old’s $32.9 million salary for 2023 and $7.5 million of his 2024 salary become fully guaranteed on Wednesday, Feb. 15. He also has a no-trade clause in his contract. More on that later.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders have granted Carr and his agents permission to speak with other teams.

Raiders already have granted QB Derek Carr permission to speak with other teams interested in trading for him that have also agreed to compensation with Las Vegas, per sources.

It's the same arrangement the Texans had with quarterback Deshaun Watson last off-season.

Will Carr play ball with the Raiders?

During the Pro Bowl festivities, Carr was asked about his contract, saying he would not extend the Feb. 15, deadline to give the Raiders more time. That’s the date when $40 million in guaranteed money kicks in.

“I don’t think that would be best for me,” Carr said.
