49ers LG Aaron Banks is going to be okay, suffering a mild shoulder strain Sunday that could keep him out of practice for this week.

A sigh of relief after the 49ers’ Week 5 win over the Cowboys as Aaron Banks did not suffer a season-ending injury.

San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that the team’s starting left guard suffered a shoulder strain Sunday. Described as mild by the play-caller, Banks will be seen as day-to-day ahead of Week 6.

The Notre Dame alum injured his upper body at some point during the first half of Sunday’s game. Unable to continue after halftime, backup offensive lineman Jon Feliciano filled in. While any injury is unfortunate, the 49ers felt optimistic postgame that the big man hadn’t suffered a lower bicep injury, with those usually resulting in season-ending surgery.

“We don’t know yet. Fortunately, it was a higher one. The low ones are the ones you miss the year for, but we don’t know if it was strained or pulled yet, but it was higher,” Shanahan said about Aaron Banks Sunday.

Less than 24 hours later, we now know that it was a strain, good news for his availability in the future.

Banks took over the starting guard position in 2022, building each week as the season went on. He finished last season with a solid 62.7 Pro Football Focus grade, only allowing one sack all season.

Additionally, running back Elijah Mitchell is viewed as day-today with his knee injury. Mitchell, 25, missed the last two contests with the ailment suffered during practice.
