49ers among top-five most valuable NFL franchises

The San Francisco 49ers have been listed as one of the top-five most valuable franchises in the NFL, per Sportico's update for the 2025 season.

Although it has been 30 years since the Dallas Cowboys’ last Super Bowl title, they are repeat champions when it comes to the chase for the most valuable franchise in the NFL.

Since Sportico started listing franchise values in 2020, the Cowboys have topped the list all six times, with a current valuation of $12.8 billion. Owner Jerry Jones’ team was worth $10.32 billion in 2024.

The Los Angeles Rams are the second most valuable franchise at $10.43 billion, while the New York Giants are third at $10.25 billion. Both of those franchises have risen 34 percent over the last year, while the Cowboys went up in value 24 percent.

The New England Patriots ($8.76 billion) and San Francisco 49ers ($8.6 billion) round out the top five, which is unchanged from last year.

The Philadelphia Eagles ($8.43 billion), Miami Dolphins ($8.25 billion), New York Jets ($8.11 billion), Las Vegas Raiders ($7.9 billion) and Washington Commanders ($7.47 billion) round out the top 10 of NFL teams.

NFL teams at the bottom of the list are the No. 30 New Orleans Saints ($5.63 billion), No. 31 Jacksonville Jaguars ($5.57 billion) and No. 32 Cincinnati Bengals ($5.5 billion).

The Kansas City Chiefs, who have won the Super Bowl in three of the past six seasons, are ranked No. 16 at $6.53 billion.

Robert Saleh has returned to his role as San Francisco’s defensive coordinator, but the roster has been shaken up in the three years he was leading the New York Jets.

Heading into 2025, he’s expected to have a heavy reliance on rookies. 49ers’ general manager John Lynch spent their first five selections in the 2025 NFL Draft on defense.

First-round edge rusher Mykel Williams (No. 11) is the obvious highlight, but Saleh highlighted the importance of last week’s preseason debut as a “really good step” for another rookie lineman.

“I felt like Alfred [Collins] took a really good step in the game,” Saleh told reporters in Santa Clara on Monday. Defensive tackle Collins was San Francisco’s second-round selection.

The Texas product missed OTAs with a calf injury that he suffered prior to being drafted 43rd overall.

Dealing with a condensed lead-up to his preseason debut, Collins had a minimal ramp-up period prior to Saturday’s preseason matchup.

Still, he played 25 defensive snaps against Denver despite not yet being in optimal football shape due to the injury.
