Update: 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that both George Kittle and Fred Warner did not practice Thursday. While their absence is concerning say the least, both men still have a shot at playing Week 5.

“Still not sure yet. They haven’t been good enough to go today which is never fun,” Shanahan said on KNBR Thursday. “They’re two guys who, if they don’t practice, can definitely play on Sunday. So hopefully they’ll get there.”

Original Story:

At the very least, the sighting of George Kittle and Fred Warner on the 49ers’ practice field is encouraging, even if thy were off the the side.

Both San Francisco 49ers’ playmakers were sen at the start of practice Thursday. However, neither joined the team during drills, instead doing individual work off the side. Both men appeared to be in good spirits and moved well. Warner was one to watch though, as he left the field after completing his workout and headed straight for the locker room.

Even more bizarre, both Kittle and Warner were in full pads, suggesting that thy would join practice once the media-viewing period concluded. While their Week 5 availability is still in doubt, signs appear to be pointing in the right direction.

Kittle made his return from hamstring tightness in Week 4, missing Week 3 due to the injury. While he made it through the contest alright, a minor injury to the midsection is enough to keep him on the injury report.

Meanwhile, Warner is dealing with a ankle injury that kept him on the sideline for the second half Sunday. The BYU product was having a standout performance, headlined by a 45-yard pick-six interception at the beginning of the second quarter.

In other 49ers news, left tackle Trent Williams returned to practice Thursday. The future hall-of-famer took his typical veteran off day Wednesday for some much-needed rest & recovery.
