The aftermath of the 49ers’ Week 5 loss has gone from bad to worse, now losing Talanoa Hufanga to another extended absence.
San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan announced Tuesday that the veteran safety will be out “at least” a month due to his wrist injury. Tests revealed that Hufanga tore some ligaments in his wrist Sunday, now needed an extended layoff to allow the ailment to heal. A trip to the injured reserve remains a possibility at this time.
Talanoa Hufanga, 25, suffers the injury in the second quarter of Week 5’s clash with the Arizona Cardinals. The Oregon native was taken off the field after allowing a broken tackle near the redzone. He would not return in the second half.
The USC product made his return to the field Week 5, missing the previous contest after rolling his ankle during practice. Prior to that, Hufanga returned from a 10-month layoff after tearing his ACL last season.

In other injury news, the 49ers are unsure regarding the timeline of kicker Jake Moody at this time.
Moody, 24, suffered a high-ankle sprain during Week 5’s loss. The injury also occurred in the second quarter, unable to continue for the rest of the game. While SF is fortunate he didn’t fracture his kicking leg, a timeline to return is vague at the moment.
Just like Talanoa Hufanga, an IR stint for Jake Moody is an option.
The 49ers have signed K Matthew Wright in place of Moody for now.
