Week 7 against the Chiefs has gone from bad to worse for the 49ers, as Brandon Aiyuk could be done for a significant amount of time.
The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver suffered an apparent knee injury during the closing minutes of the first half against the Kansas City Chiefs. Down in the redzone, Aiyuk caught a pass over the middle, immediately met by two Chiefs’ defenders for a collision. The wideout’s right leg was forced inward by the KC secondary member, hyper extending the lower body part on impact. Aiyuk fell to the grass in a heap of pain, needing an extended look by the training staff.
While the player was able to walk off under his own power, he was carted to the locker room. He would not return in the second half, ruled out for the remainder of the game.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed postgame that the concern is a torn ACL for Brandon Aiyuk, with more tests to confirm the initial diagnosis. If tests do confirm said injury, it will effectively end the wideout’s 2024 season.
“We all just got to come together as a group man and guys just have to step up. That’s the nature of the sport sadly,” 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy said about his teammate postgame.
Aiyuk, 26, signed a four-year, $120 million extension prior to the start of the regular season. The California native has not lived up to the deal since, having numerous lackluster performances in 2024. Prior to getting hurt, “BA” had two catches for 23 receiving yards on six targets. He likely finishes the 2024 season with 23 receptions for 351 yards.
