Deebo Samuel Reports To 49ers Training Camp

San Francisco 49ers All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel reported to training camp Tuesday morning, possibly indicating his contract situation with the team is nearing an end, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.

Samuel and the Bay Area franchise have been at a stalemate since feeling undervalued during contract negotiations earlier in the year, leading to his official trade request in April.

General manager John Lynch and 49ers brass have stood pat in trade talks, hoping to make it work as training camp approached.

Since then, signs are pointing in the right direction for an extension, according to to head coach Kyle Shanahan Monday on The Athletics’ Tim Kawakami’s podcast, The TK Show.

“I don’t know what the timetable is, but I think both sides are going to be happy when it’s done,” Shanahan said.

Additionally, Deebo informed the masses via social media last week that he was back in the Bay Area, posting a workout video with his trainer, indicating that the saga is coming to an end.

Samuel, 26, is entering the final year of his rookie deal, looking to make upwards of $25 million APY on a long-term commitment from the 49ers.

Making first-team All-Pro for the first time in 2021, Samuel was a wrecking ball for the 49ers, spearheading their offense to the NFC Championship game. Racking up 1,405 yards and 6 TDs as a wideout, and 365 yards and 8 TDs as a running back, Deebo showed that he is a complete offensive player in 2021.

We’ll have to see how much on the field work he does as his contract situation lingers, but having him back in the building is another positive sign in the offseason’s biggest saga.
