The San Francisco 49ers rang in the New Year by wrapping up the NFC, now set for one more faceoff with a divisional foe before the 2024 postseason.

The 49ers return home for Week 18 with the conference’s No.1 seed clinched. But before they take their bye week, they face the playoff-bound Los Angeles Rams to open January.

SF-LA has been a reinvigorated rivalry over the past few years. The former has taken control of the all-time record at 78-68-3, winning the last three clashes. The Red & Gold saw the Rams earlier in the season, defeating them, 30-23, on the road Week 2.

Running back Christian McCaffrey rushed for 116 yards on 20 carries in the game. He also added 19 receiving yards on three catches. For the season, CMC has surpassed the 2,000 scrimmage yard mark, the first time since 2019.

He, along with several other 49ers, will not feature Week 18, looking to rest & recover for the postseason. Quarterback Brock Purdy and defensive tackle Arik Armstead are two other notable names sitting out the regular-season finale. The 49ers have seen players resting in total.

“Yeah, we got seven guys. Brock’s the only one that could play who isn’t and he can be up in an emergency. But those are our seven guys,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday. “Got two guys up off practice squad. It is going to be a challenge with some of those guys. It’s not like I want Trent and a number of people out there for a while. So, we got to balance it out right. But those guys got to get their minds right, ready to play.”
