The San Francisco 49ers are bringing back one of the league’s most reliable specialists, announcing Monday that veteran long snapper Jon Weeks has signed a one-year extension to remain in the Bay Area.

49ers Announce Jon Weeks Extension

The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have re-signed LS Jon Weeks to a one-year extension.

Weeks (5-10, 242) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent on April 28, 2010. Throughout his 16-year career (2010-25) with the Texans (2010-24) and 49ers (2025), Weeks has appeared in 261 games and registered 42 special teams tackles and one special teams fumble recovery.

He has also appeared in 16 postseason contests and registered one special teams tackle.

After signing with San Francisco as a free agent in 2025, Weeks appeared in all 17 games with the 49ers, where he registered two special teams tackles and was named to the second Pro Bowl of his career (2016 & 2026). He also appeared in both postseason contests.

A 40-year-old native of Bethpage, NY, Weeks attended Baylor University (2004-07), where he played in 34 games at long snapper and registered seven tackles on special teams.

Weeks has long been considered one of the NFL’s gold standards at the position. Before joining the 49ers, he spent 15 seasons with the Houston Texans, serving as a team captain multiple times and earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2015 to go along with his Pro Bowl selection following the 2015 season (2016 Pro Bowl).

Durability has defined his career. Weeks did not miss a game from 2011 through 2023, anchoring Houston’s field goal and punt units for more than a decade. His 244 games played with the Texans rank among the most in franchise history, underscoring his consistency and longevity at a position where precision and trust are paramount.

In San Francisco, Weeks’ seamless transition in 2025 helped stabilize the 49ers’ specialist unit, earning him another Pro Bowl nod and reinforcing his reputation as one of the most dependable long snappers of his era.
