Following an injury-riddled 2024 season, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has a lot to prove in 2025.

The NFL is releasing its top-100 player rankings for the 2025 season, and the star running back has fallen far from his top-three ranking that was revealed just over one year ago.

McCaffrey has been ranked 73rd in this year’s rankings, a 70-player drop from last year due to logging just four games during the 2024 season.

The 29-year-old missed the first eight nine of last season due to Achilles injuries, then was ruled out for the remainder of the year following a December 1st matchup in Buffalo after suffering a PCL injury in his right knee.

2024 stats: 4 games | 50 att | 202 rush yds | 4.0 ypc | 0 rush TDs | 15 rec | 146 rec yds | 0 rec TD | 1 fumble

Christian McCaffrey’s 2024 campaign was riddled with injuries, but he appears on the Top 100 for the third consecutive year. He began the season dealing with Achilles and calf injuries before making his season debut in Week 10. McCaffrey returned to his RB1 role, but he suffered a season-ending PCL injury in Week 13.

McCaffrey is still a top RB when healthy and he’ll look forward to a bounce-back season in Year 9.

NFL Insight for Christian McCaffrey:The 2023 rushing leader played in just four games in 2024 due to injury, but in those games McCaffrey was productive. He rushed for 202 yards and had 146 yards receiving in Weeks 10-13, the only player in the NFL with at least 200 rushing yards and 140 receiving yards in that span.

Longtime FOX Sports broadcaster Chris Myers joined The Drive Guys to share how he believes the San Francisco 49ers will stack up in 2025.

Myers said Brock Purdy “can only get better” from here and expressed his confidence in San Francisco’s offense if they’re healthy.

With that crucial caveat, he dove into the importance of Christian McCaffrey and how their receiving room can survive the extended absence of Brandon Aiyuk.

The Drive Guys also asked Myers about his impressions of 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan based on their interactions.

Sharing a few stories as an example of Shanahan’s blunt transparency, it was an interesting perspective on the coach who isn’t afraid to step out of the box.
