After letting go of Nick Sorensen, the San Francisco 49ers are searching for someone to fill their defensive coordinator opening and now Pete Carroll is reportedly drawing some consideration.

They’ve already reportedly spoken with Robert Salah, Detroit Lions defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend, and Brandon Staley is being considered internally.

According to Tim Kawakami, former head coach Pete Carroll is another name that “has come up inside 49ers HQ.”

“As the 49ers anxiously wait for the outcome of Saleh’s interview with Jacksonville for the Jaguars’ head-coaching vacancy, I’ve heard that Carroll’s name has come up inside 49ers HQ as an interesting idea, at least. But the 49ers also have to wait out things with Carroll, who, according to The Athletic, could be the Raiders’ No. 1 choice now that Ben Johnson has taken the Chicago Bears’ job.

Pete Caroll is currently also being considered for the Las Vegas Raiders head coach opening, something which would obviously limit the 49ers’ potential chase.

They hope to get back to Super Bowl contention after a disappointing 2024 season where they went 6-11.

The Las Vegas Raiders are finalizing a deal to hire John Spytek as their new general manager, multiple outlets reported Wednesday.

Spytek, 44, has spent the last nine years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as assistant general manager. He would replace Tom Telesco, who was fired by the Raiders earlier this month after one season.

It would mark Spytek’s first job as a general manager.

The move also would reunite Spytek with Raiders minority owner Tom Brady. Both played at Michigan in 1999 and both were part of the Bucs’ Super Bowl winning season in 2020.
