Nick Bosa forgot 49ers routine after a loss, vows defense will bounce back

The 49ers don't lose many games, so much so that star defensive end Nick Bosa actually forgot what the routine was after a loss.

It had been 357 days since the San Francisco 49ers last suffered a regular-season loss. That streak came to a screeching halt in Week 6, losing to the Cleveland Browns, 19-17. In turn, that left the Red & Gold discombobulated, including Nick Bosa.

The 49ers’ star pass rusher broke down the tough loss Thursday, saying it was extra hard to take given the extra day of rest leading into Week 7. In fact, the notion of a loss felt so unusual that the player forgot what it was like in the following practice week after a defeat.

“We had to kind of eat it for an extra day. And then we were kind of dreading coming in here to do the meetings. It’s been a long time since we lost,” Nick Bosa told the media Thursday. “I actually forgot what the routine was when we lose when it comes to team meetings and all that stuff. Because our regular season last year, we didn’t have [a loss] for a long time and it happened. So, we’ve got to bounce back.”

Defensive captain Fred Warner also took the loss to heart, disappointed that they couldn’t keep their winning streak alive.

But as a leader, he relishes in these moments, determined to get the 49ers’ defense back on track after giving up more than 300 yards to the Browns.

“I mean, being a leader is really easy when you’re winning. You ain’t gotta say much. It’s easy to get in front of a team when you’re winning,” Warner stated. “But [now] it’s ‘Who are you and how are you every single day?’ Whether it’s a loss or win; so everybody remained the exact same. I think we’ll bounce back the right way.”

That started immediately after the loss on the team plane.

Warner revealed that some of the players gathered around to review the film on the flight home from Ohio, wanting to get a start on the work week ahead. That in turn made the linebacker confident that the team will correct their mistakes, fully focused on turning the page to Minnesota Week 7.

“Of course the vibes weren’t extremely high, we’re all kind of watching the tape together. Everybody’s gathered around on the plane, kinda watching the tape, trying to see what went wrong. And, we corrected those things and I’m excited to get back out there with full intent,” Warner said.
