With only a few hours to go before the 2023 NFL Draft, it looks like Trey Lance will be staying put in San Francisco.

A report surfaced Thursday afternoon that the 49ers had not held any substantial trade conversations for the third-year quarterback in the last 72 hours. Of course that could all change with the draft approaching, especially with the Houston Texans & coach DeMeco Ryans in need of a gunslinger. But as of this moment, the Texans have not reached out to the Red & Gold.

CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson reported the news Thursday.

The 49ers have made it clear over the last few days that they are looking forward to having Trey Lance on the roster for the 2023 season. While the team has talked to the player about said situations, San Francisco will only move the former third-overall pick for a substantial trade package. As that has not materialized at this time, Lance seems likely to stay a 49er for now.

“I expect Trey to be here,” 49ers’ general manager John Lynch said this week. “We’re excited about Trey’s ability to compete and what he can do for our franchise just as we were when we drafted Trey. I think the only thing that’s changed this offseason is that Trey’s gone and got himself healthy…He’s done a really good job of doing that. He’s done some different things in terms of his training this offseason. He’s very encouraged by that.”

Trey Lance, 22, has featured in eight contests for the Red & Gold, holding a 2-2 record as the starter. Set to become the team’s long-term starter last season, Lance fractured his ankle Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks. The injury forced him to miss the remainder of the 2022 season.
