The San Francisco 49ers will be looking for a new tight end in this year’s draft, bringing in Alabama TE Cameron Latu for a visit.
Reports surfaced Thursday that the Alabama standout had taken a Top-30 visit with the 49ers this week. The report did not specify how the visit went, only that he is “a name to watch as the draft approaches”. Latu also visited with the Dallas Cowboys.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was first with the news.

Cameron Latu, 23, played four seasons for the Crimson Tide, skipping the 2020 season due to COVID-19. The Minnesotan became a valuable offensive weapon for quarterback Bryce Young, snagging 56 catches in two seasons. He also finished his collegiate career with 787 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.
Latu had a less-than-stellar Combine however, finishing 11th in tight end rankings. He also finished 13th in production for TEs, getting a score of 63.
Despite that, San Francisco is in the market for a fourth tight end for their offense. Hoping the draft can provide them a youthful and inexpensive option, expect the 49ers to inquire about various tight ends. Other options could include Michigan’s Luke Schoonmaker and Cincinnati’s Josh Whyle.
The Red & Gold have 11 draft picks in the 2023 NFL draft. And after losing a handful of quality starters in free agency, expect San Francisco to fill out their depth with players for the future, that can at least contribute in the present.
