Shanahan: 49ers Dre Greenlaw to miss Tuesday practice; McCaffrey full go

The 49ers are gearing up for their first playoff game of 2024, but won’t have Dre Greenlaw for at least the first practice of the week on Tuesday.

San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that the linebacker will miss practice due to Achilles tendinitis. Greenlaw was a late scratch from the team’s final regular-season game Week 18 because of the ailment.

However, the team isn’t too concerned, wanting to give the veteran a rest day before the playoffs.

“Yeah, he’ll be able to go tomorrow,” Shanahan said Tuesday about Dre Greenlaw. “We just pushed him hard yesterday, so we want to take a day off before we push him again.”

The rest of the 49ers roster is shaping up to be healthy for the postseason, including running back Christian McCaffrey.

The ball carrier is full go to start the practice week. CMC missed Week 18 with a calf injury, but after two weeks of rest, he is back to 100% down the stretch.

Additionally, defensive lineman Arik Armstead will be at practice in a limited fashion Tuesday. Armstead has not played since Week 13, dealing with foot and knee issues. The Sacramento native was able to practice during the team’s first-round Bye Week, suggesting that he would be available for the playoffs.

Safety and special-teams ace George Odum is also on track to return Saturday against the Green Bay Packers.

Odum has been on the injured reserve since Week 13 due to a torn bicep. But after having midseason surgery, the veteran has a chance to be activated off the IR in time for the NFC Divisional Round.

“Yeah, there’s a hope,” Shanahan added about Odum. “He’s giving himself a chance [to play]. To just be able to watch him a little bit last week, we’ll see how these two [practices] go, and he could have a chance this week.”

San Francisco will need all the help they can get for a deep playoff run, set to face the red-hot Packers on Saturday.

While the 49ers are a bit surprised by how their opponents’ dominant win over the Dallas Cowboys went, SF knows that no opponent can be taken lightly in the playoffs. Not even the youngest team in the League like the seven-seed Packers.

“They find a way to win that last [regular-season] game to get into the playoffs, and now they got a good team that you don’t look at as a bunch of rookies,” Shanahan stated. “You look at it as guys who are almost in their second and third year and they’re playing like it.

“But once you watch the tape and you really get into Green Bay and you really think of their numbers and you really watch their players and how they’re doing it. It doesn’t surprise me at all now.”
