Even though the San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs rested Monday, the NL Wild Card race showed that the Cincinnati Reds and Miami Marlins are going to keep things interesting through the end of September.
The Reds and Marlins swapped spots after Cincinnati beat the Minnesota Twins and Miami lost to the New York Mets. Both, however, are still outside the top three Wild Card spots.
Tonight, the Cubs, Giants and Diamondbacks return to action, with San Francisco and Arizona facing off in an important two-game series. Currently, the Giants are two games out of the Wild Card race and 2.5 games behind the D-Backs for the second spot. Philadelphia leads all teams in the NL Wild Card and Chicago rounds out the top three.
If the Giants are able to sweep Arizona, they’ll be in a good spot with less than two weeks to go in the regular season.
