The Oakland A’s continue to bolster their broadcasting team with another play-by-play voice with historic lineage.

Chris Caray, great-grandson of legendary Chicago Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray, has been named play-by-play announcer for its live-game coverage of the Oakland Athletics, NBC Sports announced Tuesday.

Just one week ago, NBC Sports announced Jenny Cavnar as the primary play-by-play announcer for the 2024 season. A 20-year media veteran, Cavnar becomes the first female primary play-by-play voice in Major League Baseball history.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the plan is for Cavnar to call roughly 95 games and Caray about 65 games. Both will be joined by Dallas Braden, who provides color commentary.

“Chris has tremendous skill as an announcer and a true passion for his craft, which is why he’s a rising talent in broadcasting,” Matt Murphy, President & General Manager of NBC Sports California and NBC Sports Bay Area, said in a press release. “We are proud that Chris and Jenny are joining Dallas Braden as members of our talented A’s coverage team, and look forward to the season with them in the broadcast booth.”

The Caray lineage runs deep in baseball history. Harry Caray began his career with the Cardinals in 1945, then joined the A’s for one season in 1970 before settling in Chicago. White Sox and Cubs fans were treated to Caray calling games for nearly 30 years before he died in 1998.

Chris’ father Chip is the current television play-by-play voice of the St. Louis Cardinals. Skip Caray, Chris’ grandfather, called games for the Atlanta Braves from 1976 until his death in 2008.
