According to NBC Sports, Gruden and the Raiders signed free agent Derek Carrier on Tuesday, but not to replace Smith. He has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract worth $7 million. Head coach Gruden said
“You need a blocking tight end if you’re going to slam the ball with a beast.”
The Raiders have also re-signed defensive tackle Justin Ellis.
