Two years ago today, Stephen Piscotty’s 11th inning homer gave the Athletics an extra-innings win against the Cleveland Indians

At long last, Major League Baseball is close to a return.

The Oakland Athletics will begin the 2020 season on July 24th against the Los Angeles Angels after more than four months of uncertainty.

While we wait a little longer, let’s take a look back at what took place on this date in A’s history.

July 7, 2018: A’s 6, Cleveland 3

On this date in 2018, the Oakland Athletics trailed the Cleveland Indians 3-0 in the top of the 8th inning.

Former Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber had just finished an incredible outing, tossing seven shutout innings while striking out three batters.

Cleveland opted to replace Kluber with reliever Neil Ramirez, who would surrender three runs in the inning on back-to-back home runs from Jed Lowrie (two-run home run) and Khris Davis (solo home run) to even things up at 3-3.

Both teams would remain deadlocked at 3-3 until the top of the 11th inning.

Cleveland reliever Josh Tomlin’s 3-2 pitch to A’s outfielder Stephen Piscotty would be lifted well over the tall left-center field fence to give Oakland a 5-3 lead. The A’s would tack on an insurance run via a run scoring error to take a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the 11th.

Athletics closer Blake Treinen would go on to retire Cleveland in order, finishing his second inning of work and giving the A’s a 6-3 win.
