Former President Barack Obama took to Twitter to reflect back on the positive stories of 2017 as the year comes to a close. One of the stories he posted was about Philadelphia Eagles defensive end, Chris Long.
“Chris Long gave his paychecks from the first six games of the NFL season to fund scholarships in Charlottesville, VA,” Obama wrote. “He wanted to do more, so he decided to give away an entire season’s salary. That’s a story from 2017.”

Long said in an interview with the Bleacher Report in October:
“I always thought maybe it would be cool to play for free. I did. I thought it would be a personal test to see if I’m really the guy I’d like to be.”
