Raiders dismiss OC Luke Getsy, and other offensive coaches, following fifth-straight loss

After falling 2-7, the Raiders have had enough of its’ current offensive regime, moving on from Luke Getsy.

Reports emerged Sunday evening that the Las Vegas Raiders are firing offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. He was let go only nine games into his first season in the Nevada desert. After the team fell to 2-7, and last place in the AFC West, the Raiders’ front office felt now it time to pull the plug for an ever-apparent change on the coaching staff.

Additionally, LV is releasing offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello. Both me were in their first seasons with the Raiders.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero first reported the news Sunday, with ESPN Raiders reporter Paul Gutierrez confirming and adding further details on the releases. The team made the announcement official shortly thereafter.

Luke Getsy, 40, was hired by the Raiders to serve as coach Antonio Pierce’s offensive play-caller. His previous experience included OC duties with the Chicago Bears for two seasons, and passing-game coordinator for the Green Bay Packers before that.

While Vegas’ offense has gotten off to strong starts the past few weeks, Getsy’s offense struggled to stay consistent. The Raiders have scored only four touchdowns after the opening drive of the previous five contests (50 series), including three of those while trailing by at least 20 points late. The final straw appears to be Week 9’s 41-24 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

“It wasn’t a good day in the office,” Raiders coach Antonio Pierce said after Sunday’s loss. “It goes for all of us. I mean, it’s a group effort. It’s a team effort. We’ve all got to find a way to do better. We want to pinpoint from this game and look at a lot of things, from coaches to playcalling to players to execution to situations that we all can do a much better job and put ourselves in a position to get into the fourth quarter and actually have a chance to win. Not always playing catch up.”

Pierce, general manager Tom Telesco and owner Mark Davis will now search for replacements for the rest of the 2024 season. Past this year, all options appear on the table for the entire Raiders’ coaching staff.
