After Sunday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis told Ed Graney of the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he thinks Josh McDaniels is doing “a fantastic job.”
Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said he was “so happy” to hear the owner feels that way.
“I’m so happy that he loves Josh, he loves Dave [Ziegler] and he believes in them,” Carr said.
The Raiders quarterback was emotional after Sunday’s game, saying he loves the coach and was “pissed off” by how things have turned out.
But hearing the reassurance from the owner, Carr said, allowed the team to collectively give a sigh of relief.
“It kind of just gave us a breath like, ‘Yes, let’s just get better. Let’s work on being a better football team. Let’s go try win all these games. Let’s go and try and do all that, of course, but let’s just be a better football team.’ And it kind of just let us know, trust that process. Well, there is a process, and we do have time during the season right now that we know who our leader is and we know that we’re rolling, and that gives us confidence as a football team. So, absolutely when he came out and did that; like thank goodness, that kind of thing.”
Davante Adams, when asked about Davis’s thoughts, said he hopes McDaniels would get a chance to implement his scheme.
” There’s no magic coach that’s going to come in and change that, and I think that Josh [McDaniels] is doing a great job and he does deserve that in my mind. I think that we can all be better in certain instances, but some of the greatest coaches this league has seen has had some tough times, and I’m sure they didn’t all come out the blocks sprinting like Usain Bolt starting their career off or starting with a new organization. So, I think it’s a good move by him doing that. It’s good for Josh and it’s good for the rest of the guys too.”
