The Las Vegas Raiders have signed a player from their practice squad after moving another to injured reserve.
The team announced on Tuesday they’ve signed cornerback Tyler Hall. Twice this season, Hall has been elevated from the practice squad. In two games with the Raiders, Hall recorded five tackles and one sack.
Hall was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020 by the Atlanta Hawks. Before joining the Raiders this season, he stopped for a year in Los Angeles to play for the Rams.
“He has appeared in 14 career games with one start, totaling seven tackles (six), one tackle for loss and one sack, while
adding two stops on special teams,” the Raiders’ press release says.
The move was made possible when the team placed cornerback Anthony Averett on IR. Averett left Sunday’s win early after injuring his toe. This is the second time this season Averett has been placed on IR. During Week 1’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Averett injured his thumb. His season is likely over.
More relief for the position could be around the corner though. Cornerback Nate Hobbs practiced last week after recently being designated to return from IR. Coach Josh McDaniels said Hobbs didn’t return in Seattle because of an illness.
“He got sick. So, there really wasn’t anything we could control,” McDaniels said. “I just didn’t feel comfortable bringing him up and playing him without having the opportunity to practice. He hadn’t practiced in five or six weeks now, and the plan was for him to practice last week. He took part in a Wednesday walkthrough last week and then was sick, and so we really didn’t have the opportunity to practice him on Thursday or Friday. So, to play him under those circumstances, I didn’t feel comfortable with it. Hopefully, we’ll be able to turn the corner on it this week.”
