Update:

The A’s made it official Friday, announcing the team is calling up both Soderstrom and Gelof.

Original story:

Tyler Soderstrom is getting called up to the show.

According to multiple reports, the Oakland A’s are calling up two of their top three prospects ahead of this weekend’s series against the Minnesota Twins. Second baseman Zack Gelof is expected to join catcher/first baseman Soderstrom in Oakland.

Soderstrom is the A’s number-one ranked prospect. Gelof is listed as the team’s third-ranked prospect.

The news was first reported by Chris Correa of the Turlock Journal. The team has not yet officially announced the move.

Soderstrom just participated in the MLB Futures game in Seattle, recording a hit and a walk. That was the 21-year-old’s second appearance in the MLB Futures game, making his debut in 2021.

In 69 games with the Athletics Triple-A affiliate, the Las Vegas Aviators, Soderstrom has hit 20 home runs along with 59 RBIs. The Turlock native was drafted by Oakland 26th overall in the 2020 MLB Draft. The A’s prospect page describes the son of former Giants pitcher Steve Soderstrom as someone with “an excellent feel for the barrel and solid overall approach at the plate.”

Gelof was drafted in the second round of the 2021 MLB Draft. This year, also with the Las Vegas Aviators, the 23-year-old has hit 12 home runs on an .304 batting average while also recording 44 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.
