The Kansas City Chiefs have suspended cornerback Marcus Peters for Sunday’s game against AFC West rival Oakland Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium, head coach Andy Reid announced.

“This was something Marcus and I discussed,” Reid told reporters of his decision. “I’m going to leave it at that.”

The cause of the suspension came during last Sunday’s 38-31 loss to the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

During a fourth quarter drive for the Jets, Peters didn’t agree with a penalty call and threw the referee’s flag into the stands. He then proceeded to head into the locker room despite no sign of being ejected.

Despite starting 5-0, including a big week 1 win over the Patriots, the Chiefs lost six of their last seven games to slip into a three-way tie with the Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers for the AFC West lead.

Kansas City ranks 28th in pass defense (252.8 yards allowed per game).
