More players are departing the San Francisco 49ers, with linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair the latest to do so.

Reports surfaced Tuesday that the former 49ers linebacker would be leaving the Bay, signing with the Tennessee Titans for the foreseeable future. Contract details have not been disclosed at this time. Rumored to be heading to Texas to join DeMeco Ryans, Al-Shaair instead joining former 49ers executive Ran Carthon in Nashville.

ESPN’s Diana Russini was first with the news.

Al-Shaair, 25, has been the sub linebacker fore the 49ers since being drafted in 2019. Stuck behind Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw on the depth chart, the linebacker was primed for a move elsewhere, a decision that his former colleagues were all for.

“I want him to go be somewhere where he can be the guy,” Warner said about Al-Shaair at the Pro Bowl. “For as long as he’s here, unfortunately, I’m here. He wants to go be the Fred Warner somewhere else. Not to toot my own horn, but he certainly wants to go be the guy. And I want that for him.”

Azeez Al-Shaair will now get that chance, likely stepping into the No.1 spot with the Titans.

Only playing in 12 games in 2022 due to injury, Al-Shaair finished the season with 44 combined tackles, one QB hit and one TFL. Steeping into a leading role the year prior, the Florida Atlantic product recorded 102 tackles, two sacks, nine TFLs, five passes defended and one INT in 2021.
