The San Francisco Giants are apparently getting catcher Joey Bart some help.

According to a report over the weekend by Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, veteran catcher Roberto Pérez and the Giants have reached an agreement. Details of the agreement or contract have not yet been confirmed by the team. Following the initial tweet, he added Pérez almost landed on the other coast.

Red Sox made an aggressive bid and were a consideration at the end. Ultimately, Pérez thought San Francisco represented a better fit.

The 34-year-old catcher was drafted in 2014 and spent his first eight years with Cleveland. Last year, he played 33 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates. A two-time Gold Glove winner, Roberto Pérez took home the honors just a couple of years ago in 2019 and 2020.

It’s assumed Pérez will back up the 26-year-old Joey Bart behind the plate.

Pitchers and catchers for the San Francisco Giants report for Spring Training on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Position players report several days later, with the first Spring Training game scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25, against the Chicago Cubs.
